In other news, how depressing is this? When I was growing up it was basically a house rule that you had to drink water. It was always a choice between water and milk to go with dinner and I was allowed to have one can of Fresca each day. I was never allowed to drink juice and it was never kept in the house. When I say that, some people react horrified, thinking that my parents were horrible to not let me drink juice. But, looking back, I’m really glad that they made that rule because now as an adult, I can take a sip of juice with dinner (and often have seltzer mixed with diet cranberry juice) and still feel like I’m indulging. Because I know that juice isn’t the best thing for you because of all the sugar, I don’t waste calories on it when I can drink water or milk and use those calories on something I’d rather have more.
