I Can Walk

by MirandaMowbray on December 22, 2011

Yesterday, I had an appointment with my podiatrist to get cortisone shots. I’ve literally tried everything to fix my Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome, and he said that this was the next step. I was trying to avoid this shots if at all possible, since I heard from multiple people that it’s the worst pain that they’ve ever felt – my grandfather admitted to me that he almost cried when he had to get them done. I was terrified.

I’ve talked about my anxiety issues with you before, and yesterday they were in full gear. I had to wait in my little room for the doctor for about a half hour and was shaking the whole time. I felt like I was going to throw up, and I had to pee so bad, but I didn’t know if I was allowed to leave to go to the bathroom. By the time the doctor walked in the room, my hands were violently twitching with fear, I couldn’t look him in the eyes, and I felt like I was going to pass out right in front of him. Dr. Greenburg is beyond amazing, though. He made me feel at ease, telling me that the shot wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. He even sprayed some numbing solution on my hands to get me used to the feeling of it. He told me to close my eyes, imagine the ocean like it was a picture, walk into the picture, and BAM… the shots were over. I was a bit dizzy afterwards from working myself up so much, but I honestly felt like I could run a marathon.

Don’t get me wrong… Having cortisone injected into the arches of your feet is not fun. I fell asleep when I got home, and by the time I woke up at 7pm, I could barely walk because my feet were so sore now that the numbing stuff had worn off. I limped around for the rest of the night, spontaneously screaming in pain when I landed on my foot the wrong way. But the prescription pain meds helped (thank god for Motrin #3), and I woke up this morning feeling like I really could go out there and run a freakin’ marathon. My feet are still a tiny bit sore, but it’s nothing like it was before the shot. I CAN WALK. I can traipse around a room like a normal person – and I don’t have to use my cane anymore! I feel absolutely incredible. I can’t wait to go on this cruise and totally rock it.

P.S. You guys know how much I LOVE Green Giant’s Steamer bags of veggies. Seriously, you got to try ‘em. SO GOOD, and so low in calories ‘n stuff. I’m so excited because today I tried a new kind that was Roasted Potatoes and Green Beans (too of my favorite things ever!) and I’m in loveeeee. It might even be better than my beloved Broccoli and Rice with Cheese Sauce. WHAT?! I know. Plus, it was the perfect size for a lunch. And they’re only $1.50 each at Walmart. Bam.

Hi Miranda! My husband has tarsal tunnel too. I didn’t know they gave cortisone shots for it. I’ll have to tell him and have him ask the Dr. Who am I kidding…I’ll have to ask the Dr.! Glad I found you!

I’ve been to SO many doctors trying to get this treated. They say that it’s basically either cortisone shots, surgery, or shoe inserts. My doctor decided to try me on the cortisone shots first because it’s the least expensive & least risky option. Hope your husband gets better!
