I’ve been in denial the past few days, but the truth is… I have a cold
It was one of those ones that starts out as a really annoying sore throat. You think it’s probably just allergies, but then you wake up one morning and BAM! – you’re sick. Not only did I wake up sick this morning, it was also at the lovely hour of 5am. Who just rolls out of bed at 5am for no reason at all? This girl. Apparently. It wouldn’t be quite so annoying if the same exact thing hadn’t happened yesterday too… I have sleeping issues.
As much as waking up early sucked, yesterday was actually a really good day. Brent and I just found out about our new apartment two days ago (even though we’re moving in on Monday… Yikes!), so I had to go furniture shopping ASAP. I went to the Woonsocket Salvation Army, which has really awesome furniture for pretty cheap prices.
I picked up this coffee table:
Because the kitchen is so small, there isn’t really room for a table and chairs. We’ve decided that we’ll just eat in the living room on the coffee table. This isn’t a big deal because it’s pretty much what we do already (except, on the floor – so it’s actually a step up). I don’t really mind, because we know that we’re only going to be at this place for about a year – we plan to get a nicer place once we both have “real jobs” after graduation.
And we got this hutch (the one in the back, near the window):
There’s not a lot of counter space in the kitchen, so we bought this to use a prep area for cooking.
Apparently, Brent was half-asleep when I was explaining the dimensions of this to him, so when he saw the picture he kind of freaked out because he didn’t realize it was so big. Well… I bought it already, so I hope I’m right! (Salvation Army doesn’t accept returns). I think it’s going to fit perfectly. If not – there’s always Craigslist, right?
And, randomly, here’s a really awesome recipe for Mashed Sweet Potato. This is one of the dishes I hope to get Brent to eat when we move in together (he’s a bit picky).
Mashed Sweet Potato (Candle 79 cookbook)
- 2 sweet potatoes
- 2 tbsp canola oil
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp butter
- Preheat the oven to 350˚F.
- Wrap the sweet potatoes in aluminum foil. Roast the potatoes until fork-tender (60+ minutes). Remove and let cool.
- Peel the potatoes, cut into 1-inch pieces, and transfer to a large boil. Add the oil, cinnamon, and butter; mash well with a spoon or potato masher. Serve warm… Enjoy!
