2012 Resolutions – How Am I Doing?

by MirandaMowbray on July 23, 2012

Wow… can anybody else absolutely NOT BELIEVE it’s almost August??? I’m so sad :(

Not like it’s been much of a summer for me or anything. I’ve been to the beach exactly once and my online classes don’t finish up until this Friday. Next month is going to be a blast, though, I swear! Time to make the best of it.

Back in December 2011, I made this list of New Year’s Resolutions. Since it’s about mid-way through the year, I thought it’d be fun to look back and check up on how I’m doing!

What I Want to Achieve in 2012

  • Run a 5k
  • Become a size 12 again
  • Remember to bring my reusable shopping bags into the grocery store more often – ha!
  • Move into an apartment with my boyfriend Brent
  • Become 100% vegetarian again
  • Exercise 3x per week (any kind of physical activity counts)
  • Increase my protein intake
  • Sponsor an awesome giveaway on my blog
  • Write a freelance article
  • Stay on budget (in regards to online purchases – and grocery shopping!)
  • Read at least 2 books per month “just for fun”

Phew, there’s some big stuff in there. Looking back, I’m kinda disappointed in how not-so-awesome I’ve done. But let’s take a closer look :)

How I’m Doing So Far…

Run a 5k. Ha! Ha. Hahahaha. Yeah, right. That was back when I actually thought I was going to be cured! Wasn’t I so cute? I did make a concerted effort on the C25K program until a few days in I realized I could no longer walk and my doc told me that running and (pretty much all) walking were no longer in the cards. My instructions are to stay in bed as much as I can while still functioning as an actual human being. I did a much better job with that rule, obviously.

Because a size 12 again. (Cue more insane laughter). I really wanted to do this, I really did. But as it became clearer and clearer how incapacitated I truly am (see my brand-new wheelchair), this task became more and more impossible to achieve. What I have done so far is lose 11 pounds. And I’m super proud of myself about that!

Remember to bring my reusable bags to the grocery store more often. Complete success on this one! I don’t think I’ve forgotten more than a few times over the past couple months. Awesome!

Move into an apartment with my boyfriend Brent. Yup! We moved in at the beginning of May (have you taken the tour?) and it’s been awesome living together so far. There’ve been a few hurdles to overcome (Oh wait… I’m a controlling bitch? How did I not notice that before? ;) ), but so far we both love it.

Become 100% vegetarian again. Hmm… remember that whole “moving in with the boyfriend” thing? Well, yeah, that kind of put a little bit of a kibosh on vegetarianism. Since we’re trying to survive on $75/week we pretty much have to eat the same meals. Maybe once we have more money in a few years I’ll be able to afford separate dinners. But I’m not even sure if I want to go back to being veggie anymore. We’ll have to see! It’s an option, just not right now.

Exercise 3x per week. I’ve actually done fairly well on this one! I definitely haven’t exercised three times per week every week, but there were a lot of weeks in January and February that I did five times and week and in June I was going three or four times pretty steadily. I exercise a lot more than I used to, which was the plan behind this goal, so I’m going to consider this one a partial success.

Increase my protein intake. Doing a good job on this one! I’ve been making protein smoothies and eating a lot more meat in general since I’ve moved in with Brent. I probably don’t reach the optimum amount every day, but I think I do pretty well on average.

Sponsor an awesome giveaway on the blog. Oh, no! I haven’t done this one yet :( Although I’m hoping to have one in September!

Write a freelance article. I still have time for this one, but in all honesty it probably won’t happen. I did write a guest post for Maren’s Morsels, though, and I have a guest post for EatPRAYtri going up next week! Other than that, I’ve been so completely swamped with school stuff that I haven’t had time to look into it. Guest posting doesn’t totally count, but I’m still going to give this one a half-check :)

Stay on budget. I think I’ve been super successful on this one. Most weeks I stay in budget with groceries (although it could use a little work) and I’ve barely done any online shopping! I used to be ordering stuff weekly, but I’d say that I’m done to about once a month now!

Read at least 2 books per month “just for fun.” I totally knocked this one out of the park! (Are you friends with me on Goodreads?) So far I’ve read thirty books this year! Woohoo :)

Let’s Discuss!

Did anybody else make New Year’s Resolutions? Did you stick to ‘em?

What book are you currently reading right now? I just finished Still Missing by Chevy Stevens and now I’m onto Mystic Island by Jan Evan Whitford.

Nice job on your goals! You are only half way through the year and you have already made a huge dent on all of them.
