Popcorn-ing

by MirandaMowbray on August 27, 2012

Wow, I had such an awesome day yesterday, I can’t wait to tell you guys all about it!

At first it didn’t start out that great, though. We’d been having some trouble with our refrigerator lately, so on Saturday the landlord came up and fixed it for us. Luckily it seems to be working fine now, but we ended up having to throw out all of our dairy and meat yesterday, which was disappointing.

Because of this problem, I didn’t go grocery shopping on Friday like usual, so I ended up going on Sunday instead.

After I went shopping and Brent went to the gym, we got all gussied up and headed out for a date night. Brent scored a Groupon deal for Yokohama, a sushi place in Warwick. We’d been there before, so we were excited to go back.

It’s convenient to have a blog for those kinds of things! I looked up my old post before we left to check out what we ordered last time and if we liked it or not, haha.

To be honest, we were pretty disappointed with the quality this time around – we most likely won’t be going back :(

For appetizers, Brent got the Mini Peking Duck and I got the Shrimp & Veggie Tempura, which is exactly what we got last time. Even though we both liked our dishes, they just weren’t the same. Brent said his tasted different than last time and there was a little bit too much batter on mine.

For our dinner, I ordered a California Roll, a Boston Roll, and a Shrimp Tempura Roll (they actually forgot about the Shrimp Tempura Roll, but that was okay because what I got was more than enough). Brent got two Spicy Tuna Rolls, two Sweet Potato Tempura Rolls, and we shared the Yokohama Roll.

Brent was pretty disappointed with his Sweet Potato Rolls because they were undercooked, although we was pleased with the Spicy Tuna. I wasn’t a fan of my Boston Roll, but it was alright. Neither of us liked the Yokohama Roll at all, but it was too late to send it back after we’d both tried it. Oh well…

We ended up making up for the failed sushi date by going out for ice cream after. Ice cream makes everything better ;)

Meet Harvey!! Isn’t he adorable?!

After dinner, we went over to Petco and picked out a new guinea pig to join our little family. You can get a closer look at his sweet homemade cage in this post. We really wanted a baby guinea pig, but Brent and I both just fell in love when we saw Harvey, who is about 6 months old. He is just so cute and seemed very vocal and playful when the Petco girl came over to help us out.

I bet you’re wondering why we named him Harvey… here’s a hint!

His super cute two-tone butt! When I first saw him, I started calling him “two-face butt” after Harvey Denton from Batman and the name just kind of stuck!

He couldn’t wait to explore his new cage as soon as we got him home. He munched on his hay, nibbled from his water bottle, and sniffed every inch of that fleece. Eventually he discovered his Pigloo and was so tuckered out from the ride home that he fell right asleep.

We’re still trying to get him used to eating vegetables (the pet store doesn’t feed them veggies, so he is very confused by them), but he was definitely interested in his pellets and hay this morning. After he ate, he was popcorn-ing around his new cage and everything! He loves it.

If you’re not familiar with guinea pig lingo, check out this Youtube video of a guinea pig popcorn-ing. It’s pretty much the most adorable thing ever when they do it.
