What I’m Loving Lately #2

by MirandaMowbray on August 29, 2012

Today is definitely a “What I’m Loving Lately” day. Last night I realized that I’m sick with pleurisy again. My first experience with this wonderful condition was last November and my parents had to take me to the ER it was so bad. But it turns out there’s nothing you can really do for it except take pain meds and rest it off. Unfortunately, once you get pleurisy for the first time, you’re pre-dispositioned to getting it again and again and again. Ugh!

Basically, it’s a heavy burning pain right in the middle of your chest that you feel like an arrow from your ribs to your spine, accompanied by a sore neck and shoulders. The pain gets a lot worse if you try to lie down in any manner, which obviously makes it almost impossible to sleep. It also makes breathing difficult and really works up all my regular asthma symptoms.

Gross, right? I tried to plug along today like usual, but it was difficult. So today I’m looking for to a wonderful What I’m Loving Lately post, because (a) I need a little happiness reminder, and (b) I really didn’t do anything today besides laze around, so I have nothing else to talk about! ;)

Recently, I’ve been LOVING these FiberPlus bars from Kelloggs. Especially the Caramel Coconut Fudge flavor.

The whole point of my healthy goals system is to make sure I’m filling myself almost 100% with whole foods – lean proteins and veggies, most importantly. But sometimes you just need a little help, and that’s where these come in. At 130 calories with 3g of protein and 9g of fiber, it’s certainly a good “once in a while” option to help me reach my fiber goals.

Brent and I are IN LOVE with Julie’s Healthy Banana Bread. I probably have been making this once every other week this summer and we just can’t get enough of it. Of course, I’ll have one or two slices and Brent will polish off the rest! But it’s definitely a good treat I can get behind.

With whole wheat flour, low-sugar (I substitute Splenda for the 1/4 white sugar in her recipe), no oil (I follow her directions with the applesauce, and add even more instead of the canola oil she suggests), and use of yogurt (I substitute plain non-fat for the greek) to make it extra moist and full of protein… it’s a great way to enjoy a tasty baked good without the guilt!

Brent and I even love this recipe more than the regular not-healthy version, so it’s a win-win!

I’m LOVING this Maple Pumpkin candle by Glade.

Guinea pigs don’t really smell up the apartment, but I want to make sure the place smells nice anyway. I’ve always gravitated to homey fall scents, so I was really excited to see this for sale at Walmart as part of Glade’s new Fall line. I really want to try their new Blackberry Jam one, too!

I’m so IN LOVE with this Fromager d’Affinois cheese I found at Whole Foods. I’m in trouble. This stuff is sooooooo good. I polished the whole wedge off in two days (whoops!). It wasn’t as big as the one in the picture, though, haha.

I already can’t wait to go back and get some more, but I’m going to try and practice some restraint and hold off on another Whole Foods trip for another couple of weeks. But I don’t know if I’ll be able to make it that long!!

Well, these are all the things I’ve been loving lately. What about you? Feel free to write your own #WhatI’mLovingLately! If you do, email me at bitinglife@gmail.com and I’ll feature it in an upcoming post :)
