Bloody Nose? Must be Labor Day Weekend!

by MirandaMowbray on September 1, 2012

Happy Saturday, everyone! And happy three-day weekend :) Brent and I are celebrating the holiday by heading down to the beach in Warwick, RI on Sunday (just to lay in the sun… the water there isn’t that great), and then we’re going to have dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, Iggy’s!

I cannot wait to get a huge order of fried whole-belly clams. Every summer, I have to make sure that we make at least one trip down to Iggy’s in Narragansett. I recently found out that there’s actually TWO locations (how did I not know this??), and the one in Warwick is open all year. That is so dangerous!! I think I’ll try to keep my Iggy’s obsession to a once-a-summer treat, though ;) That way it stays special.

Yesterday, Brent went off to work and I was left with the unfortunate task of going grocery shopping. If you guys know me at all, you know that grocery shopping is one of my favorite things ever. But I was not looking forward to it this week. For one thing, it was 90 freaking degrees outside today. And this was no normal trip. Because our fridge stopped working last week, yesterday’s trip had to be a big one in order to stock back up on all of the things we had to throw out. We had to budget ourselves an extra $20 for groceries this week in order to make up for the extra stuff on the list.

I was also kind of cranky this morning… my insomnia is still raging, which means that I didn’t fall asleep until 4:30am. And then I woke up at 8:30 with a bloody nose! I get these all the time, and unfortunately they usually they happen while I’m sleeping. I always get them when the seasons change, so I really shouldn’t have been surprised. It is Labor Day Weekend after all! It’s like my nose just knows. Ya know? ;)

Well, I was pretty pissed about only getting four hours of sleep, but managed to conk out again around 10:30 for a few more hours of rest. Needless to say, I was not looking forward to this shopping trip. But I compromised by letting myself wait until it got dark outside so that at least I wouldn’t have to shop in the insane heat of the daytime. Now that it’s over with, it feels so good to have our fridge full of yummy food for the week, so I’m glad I went :)

It was a big trip at PriceRite this week! It wouldn’t even all fit in one photo…

Great stock up girl! You always get such great deals, I wish my stores had that. I hope you get some sleep, I feel so bad for you and the insomnia. That is no joke.

Thanks hun :) Yeah I’m lucky to have a PriceRite near me. The produce isn’t always awesome, but if you dig around you can usually find some good stuff. And the savings are astronomical, so it’s worth it!

I love that you break down what you got at each store with the price! I usually try to stay around $100/week for me and my husband each week, but that’s also including certain non-food items that I pick up at Target… shaving cream, shampoo, plastic bags for lunch, etc.

Erica, I love your blog! :) I usually post all of my weekly shopping trips on the blog because I like looking at that stuff on other blogs. I think it’s so interesting to compare prices of certain stuff in different parts of the country. $100/week is really good! My boyfriend and I are still in college, so we try to keep it on the low side – but I love to cook! Once we get real jobs, I’m hoping to increase our weekly budget.

Bob’s Red Mill is about 30min away from where I live. My mom loves to take my sister and I there for breakfast. They make all of their food with products that they make. YUM! If you ever see the Oatmeal Cranberry Walnut cookies, those are the best!
