January 2013 Life Update

by MirandaMowbray on January 8, 2013

Now that things have finally settled down around here, I thought it’d be nice to give you guys a little update on what’s been going on in my life lately. This is going to be a pretty random post!

#1: Bought a KitchenAid Artisan Mixer

Umm… I can’t believe I haven’t mentioned this until now! Like any home chef, I’ve been lusting after this KitchenAid mixer since I knew it existed. This thing is SO COOL!

I wasn’t planning on buying one for a couple more years because they’re really expensive, but I caught this crazy Black Friday deal and ended up getting it insanely cheap. I know this sounds crazy, but I haven’t even taken it out of the box yet! Right now, our apartment is just too small. There’s literally nowhere to put it, and it’s huge. I don’t want to risk damaging it, so I’m going to save opening it until we can find it a permanent home.

#2: Made the Dean’s List!

I honestly can’t believe I managed to get As in my classes last semester! I was completely stressed out and barely surviving… never mind functioning well enough to study. I’m so excited about this! Even though it would’ve been so easy to slack off (especially with a big case of senioritis), I took my final semester of education seriously. I buckled down and worked my ass off. And it was worth it!

#3: Started my real, adult job.

It feels so weird to… be out in “the real world.” Last Wednesday was my official first day working in the office with my father. I’m so lucky that my Dad runs the exact kind of business that I want to be in. He’s going to teach me all the tricks of the trade so that, when I eventually look for a job somewhere else, I’ll have all the necessary tools.

I was worried about the combination of having a real full-time job and dealing with my disability, but it seems to be fine so far. I worked it out so that I will be working in the office three days a week, and at home the other two. This way, I won’t be too fatigued and overwhelmed. I love that my Dad is working really hard to accomodate me. I feel guilty that I need special attention, but it’s so great to feel like I have all the tools necessary to really succeed.

#4: Keeping up with my weight loss.

Now that life is back to normal, I’m glad that I have more time and energy to focus on losing weight. Even though I haven’t weighed myself in a while, I know that I definitely gained weight over the past couple of months. It’s disappointing, but not surprising, considering the stress I was under. I’ve been doing pretty good with my HGCs, especially the last couple of days!

I’d really like to do better, though. I’m trying to work on portion-control and, in general, trying not to consume too many calories (I’m not really tracking them, just trying to “watch what I eat”).

#5: Got a new laptop!

Besides the fact that my old computer was a piece of crap, I needed a new computer for work. This 17-inch Macbook with its bigger screen, better battery life, and more storage space will definitely give me what I need to do my job correctly. A big screen is a must when working with photos and web design. My dinosa 15-inch was just not going to cut it!

So that is what’s new with me… what’s new with you??

Oh my gosh, it’s beautiful. The laptop and the mixer I mean. I love the color too!
I’m getting a macbook next month hopefully, and I am beyond excited. Congrats with your healthy goals! Keep it up, girl.
Oh, and I think it’s fantastic that you got a real job that is so perfect for you. Right out of college? Huge accomplishment :)

Thank you!! I know… aren’t they??? :) I love the color of it! I knew I wanted to get something kind of funky, haha. Aww, you’re so sweet. I kind of feel like I cheated on this, though. I did get a job right out of college, but I’m working for my Dad, so I guess I’m just lucky that he had the perfect job for me! I definitely wouldn’t be in this situation if I didn’t have the family connection.
